Jose Cuervo Orange Pineapple Margarita Review

Jose Cuervo Orange Pineapple Margarita is a ready-to-serve flavored margarita made with Jose Cuervo tequila and triple sec.

I’ve yet to meet a margarita mix I like. If you’re visiting friends you can always tell when they’ve made their margaritas with a mix, as they have a far too sugary-sweet taste to them. Margaritas are easy enough to make for real, so why not control the flavor and make them the way you like them? Once the sugar is in there, it’s hard to counteract it. I also like to make my margaritas strong, and no-one’s yet complained that there’s too much tequila in them.

So I admit I was a little wary of trying this Jose Cuervo Orange and Pineapple Margarita, one of several flavors they do which are ready-to-serve, with the tequila already mixed in. I can see the advantage of having this pre-mixed margarita in a hefty 1.75L bottle if you have friends coming round, when all you have to do is pour it over ice and you’re good-to-go. I was wary but also curious to try it.

On the nose the aroma is very orangey, though it’s more like an artificial orange juice smell than freshly squeezed OJ. Maybe that’s also part of the pineapple smell kicking in, making it smell sweeter.

Tasting it, it’s less orangey and artificial, and more of a good orange/pineapple blend. I’d never had a ready-made margarita before, and was expecting the worst. In fact this is pretty good. It’s 9.95% ABV, and the label says it contains artificial colors, although not artificial flavors.

Made with Jose Cuervo Tequila

It’s made with real Jose Cuervo tequila, and triple sec, the way a margarita should be made. My reservation is only that it’s still too sweet for my palate. I found a fix for this, though. I simply squeezed some fresh lime juice into it, and that cut the sweetness. There already is a dash of lime, but for my taste I needed more.

The other fix was an easy one. Add more tequila! The sweetness of the taste was also masking the tequila for me, and I like to taste the tequila in my margaritas. Luckily I had some Jose Cuervo Blanco handy, so version 3 of this ready-made margarita was more tequila and more lime juice. By then I had it perfected, and so I’ll be using this ready-made tequila that way from now on.

I know lots of American palates like the sweet taste, so many people will love it as it is, but if you don’t like your margaritas too sweet all you need to do is tweak it a little. And if you’ve got friends coming round, pour it in a pitcher and do your tweaking before they arrive, then settle down to enjoy this fruity ready-to-serve margarita.
