Cascade Potato Vodka Review

Travel Distilled reviews the smooth Cascade Potato Vodka from Cascade Distilling in the Pacific Northwest.

I’ve been impressed by what I’ve tried of the Cascade Street Distillery vodkas so far, which is their wonderfully spicy and smoky Chipotle Pepper Vodka, and their basic Cascade North Sister Vodka, a 100% corn vodka. What I was really looking forward to sampling was their Cascade Potato Vodka.

Potato vodkas are my favourite vodkas. And don’t tell me all vodkas taste the same. Potato vodkas have a deliciously rich creaminess and earthiness about them, and not even all potato vodkas are identical. Read my interview with William Burrell of Vestal Vodka if you want proof of that.

The Cascade Street Distillery is in Sisters in Oregon, up there in the magnificent countryside of the Pacific Northwest. Their water comes from the Cascade Mountains, about as pure as it gets. Unfortunately I couldn’t find anything out about the potatoes they use, but I’d love to know.

Cascade Potato Vodka Review

On the nose Cascade Potato Vodka is very neutral, like their North Sister Vodka (and unlike their Chipotle Pepper Vodka!) There’s a hint of sweetness, a little vanilla, and a sense of citrus, providing a freshness.

It’s on the palate where it proves its worth, though. The sweet and the citrus are there, but the earthy potato tastes are there as well. It’s incredibly smooth, as most potato vodkas that I’ve tried have been, with a richness in the mouthfeel and a buttery/vanilla taste too. Swill it round the mouth and there’s no burning sensation, as you get with cheap vodkas. Not that this one is expensive, at $21.95 for a 70cl bottle at 40% ABV. In fact it’s a bargain. It’s less expensive and better quality than some of the better-known names I’ve tasted. This is definitely a terrific sipping vodka.

The finish matches the palate, very smooth, with again no burning sensation, simply a warm and glowing feeling in the throat. I suggest that if you live in Oregon you check out on their website where you can buy this Cascade Potato Vodka. If you live close to Sisters, the best option is to go along to their Tasting Room and try a shot for yourself and discover just how good it is.

You can also buy it in select places in Arizona, California, Nevada, Idaho, Washington, and Maryland… and the list is growing as word spreads. And if you live elsewhere in the country, don’t worry as you can order online.

You can find a huge range of infused and flavored vodkas at Master of Malt and at Caskers.
